Book review
I am ugly crying right now. As I finished the last page, I had my hand over my mouth so my sister couldn’t hear me sobbing from the other room. I am so emotional. Maybe because it’s late, but I can’t get myself to believe that. This book didn’t prick my heart..it stabbed it completely.
I needed to read ‘Before I Fall’ so badly. I didn’t realize it until I finished it three minutes ago. Lauren Oliver has found the truth concerning human souls. I can’t help but think of ‘A Monster Calls’ and something the Monster tells the boy, “There is not always a good guy. Nor is there always a bad one. Most people are somewhere in between.” I just kept thinking that throughout this book.
I think as people get older, a lot of us forget ‘genuine kindness.’ I believe I have honestly.. As an 18 year old lady, I know what it means to be nice but I forgot how to be kind. It’s my senior year of high school and I am constantly worried about myself. Will I get into a good college? Find a job? Etc.. Oliver has made me remember the reason for existing, and how our words AND actions can change others. Kindness matters. A cliche’ saying? Possibly, but it is so true.
My review might just be very messy and not helpful to those who are deciding to read it or not, so I will just say, I 100% believe you should read this book. I just decided to read it today because the movie is coming out soon. I am so glad that the trailer caused me to pick up the book. This is NOT another Groundhog Day story. The depth it holds is unbelievable and beautiful. Like I said, I needed this. Maybe you will too. 🙂
(P.S. I thought the ending was just as it needed to be.)
