Darkly Dreaming Dexter – Jeff Lindsay

cover Darkly Dreaming Dexter

This is part of a series (Dexter) and should be read in order (in order to understand the backstory). This is first in the series. Enjoy.

‘All you can do is play along at life and hope that sometimes, you get it right.’ Too true my friend. Too true.

Ah Dexter Morgan. My unusual but yet polite serial killer.

My sibling would probably said something along the lines like: ‘That means, you love Ted Bundy too.’

No, I utterly loathe the creature and the differences between him and Dexter are that, Dexter kills the bad people (the ones who don’t get caught by the law and run freely) while ‘dear’ Ted killed women who were innocent.

But yet they were both charming and full of life, around other people.

But we all know what’s right in the end anyway. So hah, a finger to my lovely sibling in stride.

Anyway Dexter, is an unusual man. Why you ask? Cause he lives double lives (no it doesn’t mean he’s Batman) both as a serial killer and as a blood spatter analyst in the Miami police department. But what makes him even more unusual is the fact that he lives by a certain code, the Code of Harry, which would stop him from becoming the next Ted Bundy (so many references..wowza).

Anyway his cases involve several murders which copy his techniques while murdering a certain ‘fiend’. So Dexter is pretty intrigued and afraid of how much this killer knows about him exactly. And on he goes, to solve this case, as a personal stake of his own hangs in the air.

Honestly, it’s been sometime since I read this book (and my strange habit of leaving reviews till late is really not helping) so saying I almost remember anything would be boasting an ego of my mind which it does not possess.

However I do remember that the writing was clear cut and fast paced, the characters are formed well, although there’s too many cameos and not a lot of explanation about them, the mystery has my attention all the way and boy the plot twists..wowza. The cover..I mean. Look at that cover *fans* and the fact that this book is just wonderful, makes it worth all the 5 stars I gave.

So yes, if you love everything I just said about this book, go and pick it up! (I don’t kid.)

PS: Plus the show does it justice, I loved every episode of Season 1, heh.

Until the next read,
