Book review

I have waited till I finished all the books so that I wasn’t so quick to judge the story line or state that it’s confusing. In my view, after reading the series, it made so much sense and it was actually full of twists to me; it was heartbreaking, romantic, enchanting and a great read. It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read but its not as bad as everyone say it is, I think it was a pretty amazing read. I felt connected to the characters feelings and thoughts in certain situations. So many people were complaining about the first book and then the next one and the next! If you’re complaining and saying its ‘torture’ then why are you reading it? You’re putting yourself through this ‘torture’; it might just not be your type of book. I admit there are some pretty annoying bits such as Luce is generally an annoying character; she is selfish and has no self control – she’s always saying how she misses Daniel, like in Passion, but she left him so its her fault for putting herself through that. Another thing is the pointless and like 5 page worth of description that confuse me so much that my brain literally throbs. I didn’t like that any romances between someone else and Luce didn’t occur very long, there was no action between Cam and hardly from Miles – which makes me ask, why is everyone saying they love Cam and that Luce and him should be together, when he’s not even in the ‘love triangle’, he loves Lilith and even after Fallen, there was no romance there.

The mysterious plot was obviously not for a lot of people, it took curiosity to drag it to the end and to actually enjoy the book and I did. We weren’t ‘walking through a fog’, we were shown from Luce’s perspective and she obviously didn’t know everything herself, so we were unravelling it like she was and everyone did have to be closed off to her, it was the ‘rules’. However, some bits did frustrate me, mostly because Luce had a lot of questions, which she never asked, even ones as simple as where is everyone?

In the end of Rapture, I was surprised by everything that happened. The heartbreaking story of Lucifer who obviously loved Luce to bits, actually made me tear up and what made it worse, was that it was all of a sudden over, the whole adventure and romance of Daniel and Lucinda was ‘over’. They came pretty far from a reform school to the feet of God. It was also tragic how the Nephilim kids and the other Angels will never be able to talk to Luce and Daniel again, and they’ve been a HUGE part of their lives. I loved and hated how they had to start over again – I loved how they ended up finding their way back again but I hated how it pretty much emphasised reality, how we feel there is something bigger than us and we are begging for it but we wont experience it. I also hated but loved how they had a sense of memory in their past lives, but I wish it would flash back to them or something, it bugs me (and not in a bad way) that they don’t remember anything (the biggest adventure and accomplishment of their lives) – its like not being able to remember the best day you’ve had, or the sweetest romance, however, it’s a beautiful tragic ending – ‘down below, Lucinda and Daniel are falling in love for the first time – and the last’… or something like that. But it was a perfect way to end the series.

My favourite book in the series is Rapture because its like the final piece of a puzzle, so much makes sense and once you’ve finished, you start to understand so much more in the series. Such as what happened to Trevor, he died and burned to death because Luce was an angel. The making out, made her all hot and stuff and so she was shining with her angel’s glory without realising, with the lack of acknowledgement of whom she was, her mind blocked out the incident. I also understand why she is actually so important and instead of Daniel, she is the angel to tip the scales. The ending to Rapture was what made it my favourite, it emphasise the beauty in the tragedy and outline the path faith can bring you.

However, I do still have so many questions unanswered and some more after reading Rapture. Mostly WHERE IS CAM? There was no hint to what happened to him or where he’s going and for some reason, no one wanted to speak about it? (There was a silence and Shelby cleared her throat and changed the subject… um why!?) Also what happened to Callie? Did Callie and Luce’s parents or anyone Luce has encountered in her ‘past’ life memory erase or something? Because she all of a sudden reincarnated into the same town she lived in before, how didn’t she bump into her old Georgia parents? And if they’re the same, that makes it more confusing because don’t they remember that their child went to Swords & Cross etc. If they weren’t told, do her parents think that she’s dead or something? Does Callie think she’s dead? Obviously, life hasn’t ‘rewind’ because the Nephilim kids have aged. I’m also confused about the Outcasts, I know they were shut out of heaven and blinded by Hell for not deciding but Daniel and a lot of others didn’t decide immediately either, so why weren’t they turned into outcasts?

In conclusion, it was a pretty good read and I found it interesting and I was curious enough to get to the end and actually understand and learn to unravel the rest of the series. I admit, I had a higher expectations for this book, but I’ve had high expectations for every book since Hunger Games such as Arianne and Roland dating – because she was carefree and out there person and Roland was contained and knew how to ‘settle’ and calm down Arianne, which I found sweet but turns out they had different lovers…of the same gender. I also expected a thrilling and nail-biting love triangle, but it was quite obvious who it was going to be in the end; which does emphasise that we mostly and probably will know who we love from the moment we’ve met them. It was a great read and was a great, enchanting adventure; I’m a bit devastated that it’s suddenly over.
